About
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1969, Nicolás Gulino is the filmmaker behind Toposcope Films. He holds a B.A. from McGill University and an M.Ed. from the University of Oregon. His interest in the world of audiovisual communication began in the 1990s when--following his passion for astronomy--he began working as a planetarium and observatory lecturer where he got to play with projectors, lenses, and multimedia technology, using them as effective tools for communication. Together with a background in anthropology, literature and education, the transition into documentary filmmaking followed naturally. He has received filmmaking training through the Canadian Screen Training Centre, the Summer Institute of Film and Television, the filmmakers' cooperative Main Film as well as from working in the field of such documentaries as "En route: la tournée Musiques Rebelles Americas" (2005) and "Stolen Babies, Stolen Lives" (2008). His eclectic background and interest in the arts, sciences and the humanities lead him to explore many topics for his films. In "Don Policarpo & I: Travels with a Puppeteer", his most recent and personal film, he explores the interplay between artist, nostalgia, and music. Nicolas is a producer-director and editor and also a teacher at McGill University. He lives in Montreal with his wife, son and daughter.
